
DeWitt began her stage show at the age of 13. At 13, Dewitt began performing on the stage. She graduated with the Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. When she performed in her summer stock she was persuaded by the director to join UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as a secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is best known for her portrayal of Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 run of the sitcom Three's Company, a job she was offered after being selected for the second pilot episode of the show. She also portrayed Janet in an episode from 1979 on the spinoff series The Ropers. Following the show's conclusion, Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984 in which she then resigned as an actor for a number of years. In June of 1991, she returned to acting when she played an in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! A character that was based on her, voiced and voiced by another actress, was in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. She made an appearance on the episode Cybill, and had an appearance on the last episode of Living Single. Six of her TV shows of the 2000s included Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as in addition to Call of the Wild.
